The article deals with commemoration ceremonies on Holocaust Memorial Days organized by Polish and East German dissidents, which were both: an attempt to reclaim an own interpretation of history against the State-Socialist master narratives by an emerging civil society and part of the political struggle of the opposition movements with the Socialist governments. These events constitute an often  overlooked but important contribution to public Holocaust memory in these countries.
